Initial situation
Mowing the lawn can be this easy: Husqvarna engineers revolutionised lawn care over 20 years ago with the Automower® robotic lawnmower.
As part of the ongoing development of the Automower®, extensive tests have been carried out under even tougher conditions. In the trials, the mower’s ability to cut on soiled grass was tested and the devices were sprinkled with special Arizona Road Dust (a standardised test dust for determining the impermeability of different housings). Noise emissions were also carefully monitored. Additional crash tests guarantee the products’ longevity. Unsurprisingly, the fasteners were also subjected to close scrutiny. They needed to be safe, noise-reducing and invisible to meet strict design requirements.
Solution
Husqvarna left nothing to chance. For over a year they conducted tests until the best possible connection was found: SNAPLOC® – reliable and durable, even in the toughest conditions. Moreover, the plug‑in connection is invisible from the exterior and meets the highest design criteria.
The solution in detail: a SNAPLOC® coupling with a ball diameter of 10 mm is attached to four points on the approximately 50 cm x 50 cm housing of the Automower®.
Result
The simple assembly and disassembly of the SNAPLOC® studs and couplings optimises production processes. The housing is easy to attach. Since the SNAPLOC® system cannot be seen on the robotic mowers’ surface, it meets the manufacturer’s exacting design requirements. The system's vibration and noise‑decoupling function also contributes significantly to the low noise emission. Due to this positive experience, the company is also considering future use of the Böllhoff SNAPLOC® couplings and bolts for the planned new Automower® generation .
